Marion County Firefighters ‘Fill the Boot’ to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy
Updated On: Nov 28, 2016

(Salem OR) - For over 18 years, Marion County Fire District #1 Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 2557 has been raising money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) to fight neuromuscular disease with 'Fill the Boot' fundraisers.  On November 25, 2016, MCFD#1 firefighters donated time and resources to lay the foundation for another successful 'Fill the Boot' fundraiser.

This year's Fill the Boot event raised $17,018.80. This year's fundraiser was held in front of Roth's IGA in northeast Salem, Oregon.  "These positive impacts increase our community's health and well-being; it allows Marion County Firefighters to connect with the communities we proudly serve.” 'Fill the Boot' also involves our family members and close friends all coming together with the community for a great cause." said Firefighter / Paramedic Jerrod Schuch of MCFD#1.

This year Chipotle helped L2557 raise money for MDA Fill The Boot. The day after Fill The Boot, November 26th, the Chipotle on Lancaster Dr NE offered to donate 50% of the proceeds that day to MDA, totaled $448.00.

MDA is the world's leading nonprofit health organization sponsoring research seeking the causes of and effective treatments for neuromuscular diseases.  The International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) is the largest national sponsor of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), the IAFF has been fundraising with MDA for over 60yrs.  More than 300,000 members of the IAFF in the United States and Canada are pledged to saving lives, both as firefighters and paramedics and as the strongest campaigners for the worldwide research efforts of MDA to eradicate 40 neuromuscular diseases.  The contributions of the firefighters also go towards MDA's summer camps for children, professional and public health education, and other programs.

Special thank you to Chipotle, ROTHS Grocery, Starbucks, and Chemeketa Community College Fire Program.
